THERMAL Camera REVEALS Why F1 Driver CRASHED at Monza #F1 #crash #onboard

Thermal camera reveals why this F1 driver crashed at Monza. There are some really interesting phenomena we can see here. First of all, the tire blanket warmers are very powerful, and the drivers end up trying to keep temp in rather than warm them up as they prepare for the race start. Most notably, this driver manages to get surface temperature into the tires, but not much core and sidewall temperature that is crucial to performance. Especially at a track like Monza, we end up relying on brake temperature to keep core temp in, but it didn’t seem like this driver prioritized that enough imo.

i think its more of smashing against the car in front that caused it.

That little bit of time when they had these thermal cameras was fascinating to see; though I get why the teams wanted them gone.

bro completely ignores that the driver ran into another driver in front of him and completely knocks his wheel off and wants to blame it on the tire temps

my boy just crashed into the car ahead

The dude also touched another driver's wheel. The amount of torque fighting against the wheel for just a fraction if a second is enough to decommission a vehicle.

The tire heat is interesting but I think it's because the wheel to wheel contact 😬

What caused him to crash was the bird flying over him that day. The bird didn’t get breakfast that morning before work so he had to grab something on the way there which caused him to be late, so he had to take a short cut over the race track, which therefore caused an very slight breeze to blow over the drivers wheel.

I think the majority of the damage was caused by crashing into someone in front of him, how did you talk for 40 seconds straight without actually saying anything 😅

That’s why Raikonnen never weaved around the track on formation lap. He just focused on the breaks

The left wheel didn't want to leave

I am pretty sure the Pirelli slicks from 2011-2013 are far more sensitive than today’s, but they provide far more grip in operating temperatures compared to today’s slicks. If drivers do a similar amount of burnouts today, they might not get as much grip due to the much due to the stiffer structure, and they might get more tire deg instead. Which is why they don’t do as much burnouts as even 2021.

You don't need a thermal camera to see that he crashed because he didn't pay attention and the fact that his tire just discombobulated

Dancing side to side is really what knocks off all the rubber chunks and marbles off your tires, heavy breaking on the warm up is what you wanna be doing to get heat into those tires

I remember when I drove in sims, I was way inexperienced back when I did this, but I would purposely lock the brakes up on the warmup lap to get heat into the tires lol
