On this day in 1973, President Nixon announced an accord had been reached to end the Vietnam War.

My dad had one of the first privately owned satellite dishes in the states that he built and a ham radio with a submarine power booster he patched many guys in Vietnam to their homes in their states to say hi to their mom their dad they're Brothers they're sisters to say hi and to say goodbye in case they die he did it willingly and above all else. Many do not know his name didn't care as long as they're ham radio could get through to his ham radio our phone bills may have been high at times but my dad never complained he was on that ham radio almost 24/7 in case somebody needed to call home

In both platoon as well as born on the fourth of july the depictions are real. Idk about his JFK but he is telling the cold, hard and un-sugercoated version of the truth regarding Nam.

Say what you will about the man's politics. At least he fought for his country.

Platoon is a glimpse of the turning point of the Vietnam War in the late 1960s when many American combat units were beginning to feel demoralised and anxious as they venture into territories that was heavily controlled by the VC and NVA. As much as they try not to antagonise the civilians, but you can't really discriminate between friendly civilians and communist sympathisers and combatants in a village. It is like your mind is trying to tell you that alright these are not communists but ordinary civilians, old men, women and children but on the other hand you are also aware that any one of them could be a potential adversary.

The ugliest part of the Vietnam war is when American soldiers encountered Vietnamese villages who are not only scared but uncooperative, hostile and pretentious to a certain extent then it leads to sheer frustration and anger which resulted in an inevitable massacre, abuse and destruction of property.

OS misrepresented the Black Soldier in this movie. He was the one that fell asleep and let NVA walk rite up on em not Junior! All the Black GIs were either scared chumps or dope fiends in the movie. He never had Blacks in leadership roles or showing them fight with courage and valor. I’ve talked to too many Army and Marine beta who told me otherwise. Even reading transcripts from NVA veterans that hey knew when they were fighting the Black GIs they had more firepower and were singing the Temptations while reloading. This intimidated the NVA. Our elders always get disrespected by the very country they fight for. My Father was there 68 during Tet and he was no punk!!

An American nickname Butchie didn't have a problem with hanging women out of the helicopter by their hair and dropping them if they didn't get the right information my dad knew that then back in 1964 and a lot of other things were not allowed to talk about

Maybe it was best to remove the comment. Somebody can't obviously read what l write without drawing some preposterous conclusions.

When you are fighting people with no conscience, (when women and children want to and can kill you), you have no choice. I've got no problem with Oliver ' s points of view.
