There's a site called Kunaki that lets you make a custom lathe cut 12" vinyl record for a very low price... I've always heard about it, but this time I decided to make one and give you my honest review.

I laughed out loud when you noticed how warped it was

I used to get my CDs through Kunaki all the time. They always did a great job.

Thanks for doing this, I've been wanting to try something like this for a while, with the level of effort you described.

Very cool, Matt! So sorry it arrived warped though. Use for novelty or a gift is the way to go!

Overall, this might be a great way for repair/product review people to make Youtube-friendly records to use in their videos.

I might have to try this. I've been wanting to get a lathe cut of my own music for a while.

I've used Kunaki for vinyl - good quality covers. But now they've changed 'edge printing' which means highly visible (on dark covers) and ugly white edging on the edges of covers. I now use Beevinyl - more expensive, but high quality cover and audio. As for CDs, I found Kunaki to be poor - artwork darker and less vibrant, and they don' have the option for tray inside image. I use CD-Click for CDs.

Thanks for the video! I've been thinking about using them to put some old demo cassettes on vinyl, which is already not great quality, so wouldn't mind some crackles. I also know a little bit about vinyl mastering, so we'll see how it's gonna turn out.

Came for the review and fell in love with the music

A couple things, I had no idea a service this cheap existed.
1. The run time is dictated by the volume the record is cut at (louder music takes more space) and whether a computer is being used to control the rate of advance. With a computer pre-sampling the waveform, it can decide how close the grooves can be placed on a continuous basis.
2. Is this a one-off lathe cut record (not made in a press)? Then how did it get warped unless it just got hot in shipping?

Fun, I want to order one! Hopefully they replace warped records and no cost.

Fair play to Kunaki that they sent a replacement. Was that ok ? Like you said $43 isn’t bad at all, especially if it sounds ok too !

Give us the history of that Jackson guitar in the gig bag… in the corner.

Say, do you know a similar site that does 45's? I want to get a record of my papa's 2 favorite songs on a single, But it appears Kunaki doesn't do that. Exelent video; Verry helpfull to a begginer like me!

I'm curious, so seeing as its warped that's entirely fixable right? put it flat in-between some books inside the gatefold and it should be alright surely?

i use them all the time, and I usually cut them using a mono file

Sufjan Stevens vibes right there. Lathe cuts can sound super bad, usually do, so this is a win...except for the warping

It's a shame about the warp, but still pretty impressive for a lathe cut.
