When younger generations or perhaps some non-Americans critque this movie, I find it interesting what they tend to criticize. From those perspectives it's more natural to want to criticze this movie based on expectations connected to the modern technology that shapes how things work in our times. This is a very good movie for it's time, as long as you keep that huge point in mind. There are a few technical issues that are more noticeable in our modern age of video controls that allow modern viewers to rewatch or even notice the first time simply because of our more diverse and collective cognitive experience and exposure over time. Many of us ahve watched hundreds or thousands of movies, so it is easier for our minds to notice, and our fingers to let us go back and check what we thought we saw, what seemed to be not quite right for that scene. Then there is the plausability issue with the story. In general, such a story could happen, but the science was fuzzy and was simply meant to play on the highly emotional and communicable themes that would resonate with the audience of the times. The film did a good job of that in general and partly because the filmaker chose a largely unknown but dangerous substance and described it very sparingly, a substance a BAD man a 'wise guy' of sorts was far too mistaken about. A cautionary tale for hoodlums and decent folk alike.
