n20s are known as the sewing machine because of their really loud electric fuel injectors! Timing chain wine is much more high pitched and only really happens during acceleration

That's normal N20 rattle. Timing chain noise is a distinctive whine when you rev it. Repeat the above test but get someone to blip the throttle while you stand at the engine, and listen for a whining sound that increases in pitch as the revs increase.

I have 88, 000 miles on my 2015 428i and mines sounds amazing. Thats completely normal nothing to worry about - that noise is not timing chain, it’s actually the fuel injection.

Theres a serpentine belt in front of where you are standing, if the tensioner is loose then it will rattle more, in saying that, it sounds like a normal 4 cylinder bm to me

Thats the normal rattle of your highpressure pump. Just open the oil valve and look at the chain

Yeah this is normal I just got mines and took it back to the Carmax dealership they inspected and let me know the car just does this it’s fine smh

If you open your oil cap, when the engine is colder, you should be able to see the actual chain. If you take a pick and try to move it it shouldn’t budge at all, if it is loose then you need to get it fixed or the car will grenade.

From the sound alone I can tell you it is on its last legs!

b20 B48 are loud, i can most definitely hear the chain but it's subtle difference

This what my 06 dodge charger sound like I thought it had rod knock from spun rod bearings but it could be a combination of spun rod bearings and bad timing chain or lifter tick lol 😂 my car sound like a machine gun and rough start up but doesn't overheat or anything no check engine light no codes nothing

They all sound like crap. I’m taking my valve cover off though and taking a look at the chain. Best way to know for sure.

I have heard worse.. Really bad ones sound like a chainsaw and diesel had a baby that plays with siren
