'What is the Internet doing to me? (Security and Privacy for people in a connected world)', Trinity Elective - Dr Stephen Farrell, School of Computer Science and Statistics describes how this Elective is really aimed at you - people who use the Internet, who are interested in, and know questions such as “Where does your data go and how does it get there?” “Could you control all that better?” “Legally, what rights do you have? And more interestingly, what responsibilities do you have when using the Internet, both to your future self and to the rest of us?” are important, but who maybe don't know how the plumbing works but there are consequences that flow from how that plumbing works. We'll cover the technical background you'll need in lectures that'll always start from how you experience the Internet. Once we've covered those basics, we'll do a set of hackathon-type sessions, working in groups, playing with specific technologies or debating some topic. So, sign up, come along and be a noisy participant! Trinity Electives are stand-alone 5 ECTS modules outside of students’ core disciplines.
