And by "not properly treated" they mean if it's green or yellow or has dirt in it .
Also what you're smelling is not chlorine, it is chlorine mixed with pee which is why it's so acidic .

Sorry to burst your bubble, but that "clorine" smell isn't from the clorine itself. Rather, that smell is coming from the chemical that is created when pool clorine mixes with human piss. The clorine itself has no real smell.

i've heard of this before. like other towns near me that had boil water advisories because the amoeba was found in the water supply. they couldn't even take a shower until the treatment plant handled it because the amoeba could get in their nose through the showerhead or something.

It definitely sounds like it cannot survive in saltwater but to answer your question no it actually does not survive in saltwater and properly treated pools etc.
