This is nothing new. I remember 55 years ago this happening after flooding of hot pools near river in our area, it happened quite often.

I think there were one or two incidents in Kerala, brain eating amoeba case. Its found in stagnant water bodies and enters through nose.

It is found in warm fresh water, especially in certain countries, that water is not clean, use the pool and ocean water for swimming.

It's not from when you "ingest" water. It happens when it goes up your nose. So, WEAR NOSE PLUGS OR JUST AVOID SWIMMING IN WARM WATER!
