As a student at UMaine in Orono, I made countless trips to Katahdin on weekends (and weekdays, tbh). Those adventures inside Baxter were the best anti-depressant ever. I'm glad this story has made it to the big screen and I can't wait to return to Katahdin again someday.

This story so familiar. I am 60 and remember Donn Fendler coming to our elementary school. The jaw dropping part is my daughters are 25, 24, and 23 and at least the middle one met him too and got him to autograph his book for her when he came to her elementary school. He came back for decades to talk to kids and give talks and did renactment hikes. The park rangers used to bust on him, when he showed up at the gates they would radio ahead and say "Donn is back on the mountain. We need to put more guys on for the day"

Used to camp at the foot of Mt Katahdin when I was a kid. I've never heard this story. or of the book, but I'll definitely check the movie out.

My 5th grade teacher introduced us to this book. Inspired me to hike Mt. Katahdin twice when I was in summer camp. It's a beautiful mountain. Even before you get to the top, the table land is impressive. If you're going to need it, bring it with you, because there are no stores at the top and no auto roads or rail way.

I remember when Mr fendler came to my class in 4th grade I sadly lost the autographed map I got that day but I do remember he had a toe he lost he took off his shoe to show the class. 1995 I think.
