I've been blowing glass for 24 years. The obsidian sculpture is a casting. There are 2 possibilities. It was either carved or cast. Carving would have required diamond machine tools with water. A casting would only require sand, high heat, obsidian. Another style mold could have been made from sand with molasses burned into and clay. In other words no matter how high tech the stone work is that glass sculpture could have been made with a very simple set up and a huge amount of skills. Obsidian cools off and cracks so easily. Whoever made the glass casting had to let it cool slowly. Possibly for days or it would have cracked. I haven't seen anything modern that is comparable. The issue is the thickness and cooling it down without cracking. I believe lime or boron was added while it was molten.

Holy Wow!!! Love the artistic stuff .. one of the things that is expressed is the mental prowess of the artist who created it in the first place. How they finished it etc. with the polish .. totally awesome .. keep it up Brian .. really appreciated!!!

With the frequent mentions of needing a lathe, just note that anyone with construction experience will tell you that doing such things perfectly round is quite easy and requires a sharp rock/chisel and a string. Nothing more. Anchor in the middle, tie sharp object to the end, and move it in a circle giving yourself a cutting guide line.
