The Merck Cancer Access Program is part of Merck Foundation's commitment to improving patients’ access to quality and equitable cancer care in underserved communities. The lack of financial means is not the only challenge in Africa and developing countries, but a scarcity of trained health care personnel capable to tackle the prevention, early diagnosis, and management of cancer at all levels of the health care systems is even a bigger challenge.

I am proud of our success to reshape and advance the public cancer care sector and increasing the limited number of oncologists by more than 70 new oncologists to be the first in 24 countries which are: Botswana, Burundi, Cameroon, CAR, Chad, DRC, Ethiopia, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinee, Kenya, Liberia, Malawi, Mauritius, Namibia, Niger, Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia. . We aim to form a Multidisciplinary Oncology Care teams in many countries consisting of; Medical, Surgery, Pediatrics, Gynecology, Radiation Oncologists, Nursing, Pathologist and Radiology Technician.
