Weird, they all seemed like pain mode to me

The most important feature for me was persistent sessions and floating panes. It has all the features I need out of box. And it's easier for beginners with the keyboard shortcuts right there

Hey man, I just want to say I really appreciate your videos. They've really helped me establish what tools I use as I'm trying to develop my career.

Old tmux user here.. switched to zellij and had never looked back since it feels better in my opinion

Btw the major difference is sessions can be saved and restored between reboots out of the box. You can do it in tmux though by installing tmux-continuum and tmux-resurrect.

Well technically you can do it also in tmux:
- Tmux supports modes
- Tmux supports changing the status bar content showing whatever you want like the current mode
- it’s relatively easy to do in a few config lines

It’s just not in the default config

The reason I use zellij is for the floating panes and modal editing. In tmux, it was multiple keystrokes to resize a pane a few pixels, and you had to do the whole process many times over. In zellij, you enter resize mode, and then it’s just arrow keys or hjkl

Really like zellij sane defaults and also very customizable.

So basically it has built-in which-key?

I am not missing this in tmux. I am also not using all tmux features / key bindings and the ones I use I have memorized. So there is no need for me to switch.

This major differentiator is rather minor

Fine tool. BTW I still prefer regular tmux or even screen, them don't make much mess on workspace and don't have pack of additional dependencies. Yes, this is matter

Yeah, zellij also has built-in auto-resurrect. I feel like it's a lot less confuguration and tweaking.

I'll also die on the helix > neovim hill 😅

What in your opinion is the best way to deal with shortcut overlap between zellij and neovim?

This sounds more friendly than tmux, but considering all the time tmux has been the standard it's hard to pick one as someone just getting into terminal multiplexers (for dev work). Which one you recommend? (I don't mind creating a config for tmux, but I'm not a fan of plugins)

I think the main differentiator is session resurrection and management built in and it's actually good. You don't have to resurrect all your sessions when you want to open one that was killed and the session manager is pretty good.

Finally a way to exit pain mode in the terminal 😅

I don't want my screen real estate constantly being used to show me which keys or mode I'm in. Can you remove it? Or make it only pop up for a short interval? Only thing i wish tmux had is something like which-key for neovim.

I actually prefer Ctrl+h/j/k/l to move between panes (with or without tmux)

Maybe good for people who are new and want something to get used to quickly but if u already know tmux its the best
