2022 Mercedes-Benz C-Class | First Look

For the latest Mercedes-Benz C-Class pricing and information:
Let’s take a brief look at the all-new 2022 Mercedes-Benz C-Class. Fun fact, the C-Class has also moved the most volume for Mercedes-Benz over the last decade. Based on a first glance, the all-new 2022 C-Class looks well-prepped to maintain that momentum.
To my eyes, this is a good-looking machine. And now it meshes better stylistically with the rest of its Mercedes kin. LED lighting is standard in both front and rear, and 18” wheels come standard as well.
Move inside and Mercedes has taken a tech-forward approach to in-car design. Taking inspiration from the upper echelons of the Merc lineup there’s an 11.9” touchscreen in the center stack and a 12.3” digital instrument cluster. You can wirelessly connect your phone via Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, and there’s even a fingerprint sensor that delivers various driver profiles via biometric authentication.
Still, more tech features blossom from the options list. I’m talking features like an augmented reality navigation display, ventilated front seats, a 3D surround sound system from Burmester, an integrated toll pass, and even a dashcam. Oh, I can’t wait for the C-Class footage that’ll come out of Russia.
Even the powertrain has gone high-tech! The new C-Class is the first Benz to pair a four-cylinder gasoline engine with the brand’s 48-volt electrical system and an integrated starter generator. The 2.0-liter twin-turbocharged four-cylinder engine produces 255 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque on its own.
But the electrical system can add up to 20 hp and 148 lb-ft of torque when needed. Lemme check those numbers. Yup. 148 lb-ft. That power is sent wheel-bound via a 9-speed automatic transmission. The C300 can be had as a rear-wheel-drive model or with 4MATIC all-wheel-drive.
Just a few more details regarding the powertrain, which I find rather interesting. It uses the electrical system to assist on acceleration, but can also let the car “sail”, that is drive with the engine turned off to help with fuel economy. It’s not a hybrid in a traditional sense but it’s pretty close. This is electrification that results in a better driving and stronger performing machine. In fact, Mercedes says the C-Class will run from 0-60 mph in 5.9 seconds in both the RWD and AWD versions.
There’s no word yet on actual fuel economy or the starting price but we do know that both the C300 and C300 4MATIC will arrive on dealer lots starting in early 2022. And when they arrive they’ll bring fresh looks, a fantastically updated cabin, and a powertrain that smartly blends efficiency and performance.
