couldn't get go work till I discovered have to have the new remote within about 18" of the Hopper. then it works perfectly

I got a controller I found can I use it as a universal remote without the recover

my controller might be screwed up it makes no sense. i hit guide then i hit up then it changes to TV, i hit numbers DVD light turns on
