Annually we organizes a back packing trip for the men in our family in Washington State.
This year we changed plans from a mountain pack trip to an ocean pack trip because it was
20 degrees cooler on the coast. We spent three days on the Washington coast in the Olympic
National Park, an area called Point of Arches at the south end of Shi Shi Beach. The hike is
approximately two miles through a rain forest to an isolated beach on the Pacific Ocean.
Continuing south approximately two miles to Point of Arches, a group of rock columns called
"Hay Stacks". The weather was favorable until the morning we hiked out. A beautiful hike
well worth the four and half hour drive from Seattle area.

This was a excellent hike. I, the oldest at 80, was not in good shape, but dragged my butt two miles out to the beach and about a mile south to camp. Exhausted the first night and the next morning, I joined the group mid day for a hike to the point of Arches and back to camp. There is a lot of creative old camp sites in the drift logs and huge trees washed up on the beach over the years. A heavy mist and light drizzle came in over night with a thick fog settled in as we hiked out. Thanks to the younger members of the group that took some of my load and tent, allowing me to make the trip.
