Shi Shi Beach is magical, blanketed with an uninterrupted expanse of soft fine sand that seems to go on forever. Many regard this beach within the Olympic National Park as the most beautiful of the many spectacular beaches in Washington State. Here the ocean rules as huge waves crash relentlessly against the shore, constantly reshaping the landscape. South of Shi Shi Beach lies the Point of the Arches, an extraordinary labyrinth of arches, caves and passageways that are only briefly accessible during peak low tide. In this video we take you along on our wilderness backpacking trip from the Makah trailhead to Shi Shi Beach and the Point of the Arches, then further southward on a primitive trail to secluded coves. Photographers and nature enthusiasts from all over the world are drawn to this area and are rewarded with an experience they cherish forever.

I have been there 5 times (from Iowa)..my favorite place in the world. First time there was in 1980 and there was a Bigfoot totem along the beach..

How far down did you hike to get to the caves and arches? I felt like we hiked pretty far down but don't recall coming near this area.

It was fun to witness the several times when you would first photograph one of the rock openings and I would guess a certain size or scale of the opening until the video would cut to when a human would be traveling through it thus giving The true perspective which was always different than what I had previously assumed. I also wondered about the groups the hikers would use when climbing Dusty hillside. Are those ropes provided by private citizens or by the government? I was just curious. I also was curious about the shelter and seat. Did you rent it from the park? Or was that another private citizen creation?
