Ice Crack

Andrew nearly falls through the frozen lake!
The lake ice thickness was 20-30 cm (8-12 inches) except, evidently, through this area. At this spot, it was barely thick enough to hold bodyweight and started to crack, as shown in the video.
Luckily, no one got wet, and we were able to continue our tour of the lake.
Be safe and carry safety gear! When on wild ice, carry at least some rescue spikes and throw rope. On large lakes when you end up far away from your car, a dry bag with change of clothing is essential. I typically carry 2 changes of clothing, one being a full set, and the other a minimum required to get me back to the car without getting hypothermia. This would include gloves, hat and windproof outerwear.
Take care and be safe on wild ice!
