The Green Orb glitch in Super Mario World (SNES) - A Wild Glitch Appears! #shorts

In Super Mario World for the SNES, there's a crazy glitch you can perform in the very first level of the game to give yourself an item that basically will allow you to instantly clear any level in the game. It's called the Green Orb glitch and it essentially gives you one of those green "?" spheres in your inventory.

Here's my short tutorial for the Super Mario World Orb Glitch:

First, bring a Yoshi to Yoshi's Island 1 as Fire Mario.

Then, make your way to the green pipe with the T-Rex enemy walking around to the right of it. This pipe has a flying Piranha Plant in it (and you can eat it if you want). To the right of this pipe and the T-Rex is a Chargin' Chuck who will jump and clap, but make sure you don't go far enough to the right to spawn this enemy. In other words, you DON'T want to be able to see or hear this Chargin' Chuck in order for this glitch to work.

Now, stand on the green pipe close to the right edge. You need a lot of things to happen basically all at once. You need to hit the T-Rex with a fireball to turn him into a coin, you need Yoshi to eat that coin, and you need Mario *or Luigi) to land in front of Yoshi so that he touches the coin before Yoshi swallows it, AND you need to scroll the screen slightly to the right so that the Chargin' Chuck spawns off screen at just the right time. Sounds complicated, but it's not so bad.

It doesn't have to be pixel perfect. just stand close to the right edge of the pipe (again, making sure you can't yet hear the Chargin' Chuck jumping or clapping). When the T-Rex walks into range of Yoshi's tongue, press Y and A (or X and A might be easier) at the same time so that Yoshi sticks his tongue out as Mario dismounts while shooting a fireball.

If you lined it up and timed it right, Mario will hop off Yoshi as Yoshi sticks his tongue out. A fireball will hit the T-Rex, turning him into a coin. Yoshi will grab the coin with his tongue, but Mario will land in front of Yoshi, so that when Yoshi pulls the coin in, Mario will collect it instead, and Yoshi will end up eating nothing.

But instead of nothing, the game decides that Yoshi needs to eat something. So, it puts the next loaded sprite onto his tongue instead, so technically, Yoshi is eating that Chargin' Chuck. And since Chargin' Chuck for whatever reason was programmed to give you a powerup when eaten (and he can't be eaten by normal means) the game doesn't quite know what to do.

So if you did everything right, you should now see what looks like some Koopa faces in your reserve inventory slot. But! In actuality, it's one of those Green Orbs that you collect at the end of certain levels (like the Sunken Ghost Ship). So if you hit the select button, the item will appear toward the top of the screen (and sometimes it looks like a shiny enemy) and if you collect it, you will instantly clear the level you're on.

And since you're carrying this item in your inventory, you can bring it to whatever level you want and instantly clear that level. Not quite sure if it works on every level, and you have to be careful where you use it since:
1. You will need to be able to reach it at the top of the screen (it doesn't fall down to you like a normal item).
2. You need enough space for Mario to do his "victory walk" without him falling off a cliff or dying or whatever.

But hey, it's real useful AND it's fun to mess around with.

Oh and yeah me and Molly M are in a hotel.

This glitch is really really janky. I’ve had times where I’ve done it correctly and either nothing happened or the game still crashed.

Ah yes, don't you just love the *dismembered koopa body parts* item in super mario world? like it's really hard to obtain but honestly they're the best item in the game

Just did the glitch and fun fact, if you take it to the bowser battle, it turns the koopa head to a peach head.

I think you will find, if you check the instruction manual for this game that it will say the hero is not in fact Link, but Princess Peach of Legend of Mana fame.

you put that you can dispatch of the silly flying piranha plant but i havent been able to pull off the glitch with out it alive

so either it's required to exist or is really good moral support for me.

Did you also know that if you eventually do it right it will play randoms sounds, music and it will just show random sprite like numbers and other stuff. But don’t venture too far.. or you might end up into a void, no sound, no music, no sprites just black. Orr you might get some unsettling things…
