Why would an omniscient god deliver messages of eternal importance in writing, knowing your target audience would be about 98% illiterate for many hundreds of years? And also knowing that any literate clergy would distort these "scriptures" for their own benefit. Doesn't seem very god-like to me.

There is no sense in organized religion but there is money in them.

"Why do so many people believe these religions?" Humans are highly subject to Wish Fulfillment Desires.

We are told an all-knowing God designed the incredible complexities of life, yet was so unimaginative & primitive it could only resolve issues by killing people.

It is incredible how difficult it is for a person to admit that all religions are man-made.

It's great to listen to common sense without someone arguing the opposite.

One of the many things that turned me off to religion was prayer. The idea that by simply talking (or thinking) to yourself about an event that you are asking the "creator of the universe" to make happen is utterly delusional. You can't even describe what form this deity has based in reality, but somehow you can communicate with it simply by talking to yourself? That doesn't sound crazy to you? Seriously.

Theists say that if your prayer isn't answered that it was "God's will". Or that it's "not the time" for your prayer to be answered. Which, in both cases, is no different than there being no god at all.

My husband became an atheist by reading “The God Delusion”. He is still depressed… Somehow he thought that he would see his mother again somewhere… Me, I have been a non believer from my early teens. It’s because my grandfather was such a pious man that I read the Bible and started to think about what I was actually reading. Being raised Roman Catholic it’s not easy to start questioning things. Especially because I have fond childhood memories of sitting next to my grandfather while he read stories from the Bible. Now, I know that I would have the same fond memories if he would have read fables from the Grimm brothers. Which, seen the cruelty in them, they very well could have been. As a child I used to go to bed and talk for a while to God… I must admit that it was comforting knowing that someone mighty was protecting me. However it’s like Richard Dawkins said in the last few minutes of this video. It is letting go of an imaginary childhood friend. Growing up and accepting the beauty of reality. The world is so much more wonderful and complex without a God.

The worst people are those who mindlessly follow thier parent's influence without asking for a reasoning ground for that particular religious path.

How many of us have seen a talking snake or a man made from dirt? How about an angel running for public office?
It's pure BS.

These people have lied to me about the tooth fairy, xmas, easter and even Thanksgiving. Yet im suppose to believe in your god or i go to hell . Any religion that kills another person for not following their religion doesn't sound like a god to me more like a devil.

Mathematics doesn’t rely on languages or a peculiar understanding of what operates All-That-Is.

Mathematics succeeds as a science whether one speaks English or Korean. Gravity is a reliable force, no matter one’s ethnicity. Magnetic North is discoverable by humans of every stripe and pattern.

Surpassing truth is not a cultural phenomenon or the construct of any particular deeply reflective hominid.

Human capacity for self-delusion is as endless as the number of digits to the right of Pi.

I could never imagine life without Science. Religion is the bane of my existence, when scaring me into religion didn't work, they always tried to force me into religion. The religious people in my life, seemed compelled at times by some kind of unseen force, to never let me be a atheist. I remember thinking no one dies, no one gets hurt just because I don't believe in God, I'm not the first atheist to ever exist and I'm diffidently not the last.

I totally lost it when I realized that the guy that apparently created the universe is the same guy who makes people suffer for eternity from eating too much.

Why would God create people knowing their destined for Hell ?

People simply don't want to accept that we likely vanish from existence at death, which is the most likely case. Our world is between our ears in a marvelous meat computer. When it quits, you're gone for good!
