How they love to demonstrate the capabilities of their DLSS, avoiding dynamic scenes and sharp camera turns as much as possible, because they understand that multiple artifacts will immediately appear on the screen.

I really feel like the performance metrics should be called "perceived frames per second." Frame Gen is good, but it isn't perfect and gets weird around text, subtitles, and some games UI elements. I don't love that Nvidia is claiming 200+ FPS when 3 of the 4 images are created using AI and might have artifacting.

I just don't understand this marketing, literally every reviewer will bash the crap out of this once they are allowed to show the actual apples to apples performance.

Showing frame counters with frame generation enabled is not a performance benchmark. Increased motion fluidity should not be presented as improved performance. Frame generation decreases your base frame rate when GPU limited, adds additional latency and introduces motion artefacts. While your average Joe may not be able to notice the additional latency and decreased frame quality that comes along with frame generation, the fact remains that these techniques can’t be claimed as increased performance. This is coming from someone who owns a 4080.

One thing buried was that FG now uses game engine data/state and not just output frame. Will likely help with movement and latency.

Real-time path tracing is almost incomprehensibly difficult.

The fact we can get 30fps without AI hardware acceleration is a miracle.
