Palworld December 2024 Update: New Island, Terraria Crossover & Legal Drama

Big news for Palworld fans! Developer Pocketpair has announced a massive December update featuring the “largest, harshest, and most mysterious” island yet—six times the size of Sakurajima, which launched earlier this year.

But that's not all—2025 will bring an exciting crossover with indie legend Terraria. While details are scarce, teaser artwork shows characters from both games joining forces.

Amid these updates, Pocketpair is facing a high-profile lawsuit from Nintendo and The Pokémon Company over alleged patent infringement. The lawsuit centers on mechanics like capturing creatures in a field and riding them, which Nintendo claims are patented ideas seen in Pokémon games. Pocketpair is fighting back, pointing to precedents that may work in their favor.

Despite the legal battle, Palworld has been a massive success, launching on Steam, Xbox, and Game Pass to record-breaking sales. It’s even expanded to PS5, and Pocketpair has partnered with Sony to grow the Palworld franchise further.

I've measured the map, six times the size of Sakurajima would mean that it's almost the same size as the main island. Not counting Astral mountain, mount Obsidian, Marsh Island, and Forgotten Island. It doesn't fit on the current map. There just isn't enough space unless it's a really long stretch of land that wraps around the majority of the right hand side of the map. The only other thing it could be is a map size update. The World Tree is planed for the last update as far as I can tell, so that won't be coming just yet.

So hear me out.. why doesn’t palworld get with the infinite artists who create fakemon and pay each of them for rights to their fakemon to add into the game. That way they can focus on new regions to add to future dlcs

I have noticed there is a lack of good multi-purpose Pals. Outside of Anubis there isn’t a pal that can do everything. So besides that Golden Warsect, *(it’s named Warsect Terra, )* it’ll still be a gathering/lumbering type, maybe with mining sprinkled in. Excited either way. 😊

Haven't done everything and only hopped on for a few minutes when the first island was added. Still it was funny to fly around my base and find that there was like 5 new pals in my area that I didn't see

I want to be able to dig underground in palworld like you can in minecraft. It would make sense from their game design view of taking the best from the most popular games and putting all of it in one game. So far, they put together Fortnite, Pokemon, Breath of the Wild, and now they need minecraft. All most popular games in one.

Hoping for new unique pals rather than more variants although still a nice update overall; but personally still waiting for an actual story mode to bring me back(I dont wanna keep coming back for every update or I'll just burn myself out like with other games). Maybe we'll get one when palworld finally comes out of early access.

I dont play terraria so Im rather indifferent to the collab but I highly doubt palworld will introduce a limited time event for this(or any other future) crossover since palworld isnt a live service.

can armor get the transmog feature i hate some of the nice looking masks and things that become completly usless other than flare but get stuck with the broken armor at the bottom

I like the crossover and I cant wait when I can kick my ass and complete the first island to explore another, but what i dont like is that they release a patch/update (0.3.11) where change summoning your pals and some UI chnages. 1. You cant now summon your pal throwing the ball and place him where you want, now its just spawn next to you, 2. the reticle will now only be displayed when aiming. The first change cause so mutch bugs with flying pals when you summon them in boss room or in building. I hope they change it back cause none of this was mentioned in that three patent lawsuit documents if this all is because of that.
