In this video I make a "cat of nine tails". This ropework project will come in handy if you start any major construction project such as a personal pyramid or Stonehenge 2.0.

This is a fairly traditional project and there are many different designs out there. The history of the "cat" is well worth reading up on.

The naval cat of nine tails has an amusing nickname, the "Captain's daughter".

With the blood knots, I suggest starting with the lowest (closest to handle) ones first then move up. Easier than feeding knots through the loop over and over.

I'm surprised the ends are cut at 23:50 rather than being used to add 9 more tails. They're in the perfect spot for that. Do you know if there's a historical reason for not doing that?

What's the estimate of how long it would take to prepare a full-scale cat of nine tails?

Hi Mark, I'm assuming the name "Blood Knot" comes from the fact that these knots will draw blood from the person being flogged.
