Inside An Architect Couple’s Tasteful Organic Modern Home

This week, we visit the home of not just one, but two architect’s! Homeowners Jie Lun and Jen have completely transformed this 5-room HDB resale flat at Jurong Lakeside into a much more open but yet still intimate home. It’s a corner unit, so it enjoys more privacy, but the most unique aspect of the home is the rounded windows at both ends of the home (the master bedroom and common bedroom).

The previous layout featured 3 bedrooms and a study, but they have optimised the floor plan to suit their lifestyle instead. One of the common bedrooms was removed, and instead forms a really expansive walk-in wardrobe instead. The study is now the dining area, and that move means the living and kitchen areas can now be left completely opened for hosting friends and family. An conventional touch here is definitely the timber ceilings that provide a more homely ambience to the space.

I love this house! Everything (furniture, fittings, lamps etc) looks like good quality and well designed from reputable brands so it's not just those things which looks pretty from afar like the typical OEM taobao products/ ikea filled houses. The materials selected also looks like good quality and when it all comes together, the entire house just looked elegant in an understated way. Also love that it is not just good looking, but has functionality and practical considerations well thought of. I also like that it has none of those trending features like curves, arches, pastel colours with gold etc that is trending now but will probably look outdated and very 2020s after 5 years. Love the cat too

My favourite part of the house has got to be the master bedroom. I like how the owners combined the original master bedroom and the common bedroom, and also added sitting platforms by the windows on both ends! Definitely nice to sit on the platform with a hot cup of coffee on a cool wet rainy day... LOL.
