How I dealt with Driver Timeout Error

How to fix this annoying AMD driver timeout error, while gaming, recording, or just browsing !!

Here is a simple method which fixed the driver timeout error for me.

I hope this will also benefit you too !

Steps to check if it solved you Driver Timeout

1. Fresh install using DDU
2. Update the chipset driver
3. Not installing Adrenaline software
4. Trying different driver version

I never had any of these issues with Nvidia, since I switched to AMD I've had to reinstall Windows, DDU my graphics software multiple times. 3-5 minutes into games and crashing repeatedly. I will never buy AMD again. I am considering a manufacturer warranty and turning my 7900xtx and replacing it with the 4080. Dlss 3.5 is much better than any upscaling option that AMD could offer anyway. Who cares about rasterization if the card doesn't work well enough to benefit anyway. I can say after 2 months of GPU Hell that my patience with AMD is at its end

found the actual fix, open task manager> services>disable AMD crash defenders and disable AMD external utility. Boom back to normal

I haven't tried this one yet, but I will as soon as I get some spare time. The problem with these AMD Driver Timeouts is that it can be 1 of 20 different things that are causing the same error. It's quite frustrating. And I'm not going to lie, I'm wondering if I should just get a refund since it's still covered and go with Nvidia? As much as I didn't want to support team green, I've rarely had issues with their drivers, and the couple times I did, they were easy enough to work around and they were also fixed within a couple weeks. I'm seeing forum posts of these AMD timeout errors going back to when the RX 6000 series was first released and AMD has seemingly done nothing to fix the issue.

Dude, thank you so much. I've been struggling with this error for 2 days trying to fix it and switching HEVC to AVC solved the issue.

I believe this occurs due to high amount of overclock that was done by the GPU manufacturer. I'm not sure but if you are able to reduce the frequencies of both GPU and vram by 10%, it'll most probably fix the problem. But it doesn't let you reduce the frequencies, you can only go higher. BIOS mod is required to do this. Since I already got 4060 in my hands, I'll risk this and test it out. I'll let you know.

Yup surely next time im buying a gpu i prefer spending an extra 100 dollars for a worse gpu than strugling with this stupid error

Hi, I recently bought an asrock 7900 xt, so a good custom... but it's been driving me crazy for about 15 days, the bios is up to date, and the ram is stable, I created a manual xmp profile, testing slowly all with aida 64... basically crashing in every game, many times even with a PC restart, to the point that I immediately thought it was my power supply, bought a new one, same problem... I don't think it's even the GPU since it keeps all the synthetic tests under 65 degrees, which is a pleasure... I don't know what to do anymore...
The only thing I noticed is that if I lock the games at 60fps and not at 144 anything, I play perfectly without any problems ...
by now I just think that AMD has really bad drivers, my first gpu was an old r9 290, she had given me some problems too, but here we are ridiculous, every game random crash, black scree, blu screen etc..

I also found a fix that solved all my problerms I had with this card! It was not an easy fix and it took a while till it was done but now I have zero issues what so ever!
I sold my 7900xtx on ebay and got myself a 4080 super instead! Super happy with the results!

What fixed it for me was installing the driver ONLY without the trash radeon software and then disabling multi-layer panel from the registry.

No more timeout.

I regretted trying AMD again. I should've stayed with Nvidia. I got no problems with my 1050 ti up until 1650 super. Then I switched last december to Rx 6600. Dude it is a damn pain in the ass, everything keeps crashing. FPS not even consistent, my gtx 1050ti performs even better. I'll go back to Nvidia once I can sell this crappy GPU

if DDU, Chipsetdriver, Driver Reinstall, Reseting Settings NOT WORK. then is is a AMD Problem, not a User Problem!
i did everything and did not work, so, AMD needs to fix it!

Be quiet dark power pro 1600W (I know this is overkill as hell, but it had a $100 discount)

I work all day on the pc and have literally 0 issues, but once i started playing any game, it just keeps crashing, I've had 2-3 timeout crashes on a single league of legends game (20-25 minute) and GTA V was unplayable, it always crashes after 5 minutes of playing, I've stressed the cpu, the ram and m.2 and everything works perfectly. I juat returned tge card, i was so tired wasting my time trying to get it to work.

mine is already AVC not HEVC and this is by default, This option is available in in record and stream option . but my driver and games crashes without recording just playing games and crashes every time.

Can you recomend what version of driver that I can use on my vga card ? Now I'm using rx 580 8gb and always got the driver timeout. I've tried 24.7.1 version, 23.8.1 version, and 21.3.1 version. But still didn't work at all. Please help me 😢

I’m trying to fix a problem where I clip a instant replay and the replay flickers but I’ve clipped many replays that looked perfect
For the people games crashing I suggest update all your drivers main one for me is graphics driver then redownload the adrenaline drivers

When you say « not installing adrenaline software » you mean  not installing Adrenalin software ??? Is it possible and how ? I thought drivers were included with Adrenalin software
