2022 Subaru WRX – MPG Test | Real-world Highway Fuel Economy

While the WRX isn't quite as economical as the Civic Si, Kona N, or VW GTI, we give it an A for effort. It still managed to beat EPA while continuously variabl-ing it's transmission AND powering all 4 wheels. We consider that a win.

Great reviews - I love that you drive them 100+ miles. There are “reviewers” that literally drive circles in the dealer’s lot and call it a review.

This has got to be one of the best scenes to frame a car review. The fall leaves and the background is just gorgeous. BTW, great mpg test, thank you.

I was hoping the test was going to be with the manual transmission, BUT I really appreciate the fact that you actually recorded the amount of miles you drove and divided it by how many gallons you needed to refill after the trip.

Trip computers aren't always accurate so I'm glad to see you went and calculated the mpg. Also 29 seems pretty good to me considering i get about the same with my 2015 Civic Si, despite it being only 205hp, fwd only, and only 3000lbs.

Much appreciated my only hold back from buying the new one was the mpg this solidifies my decision

Yeah, I know this is a sport sedan, but honestly a compact sedan with a CVT and AWD that doesn't even touch 30mpg on premium unleaded is a tough sell in 2023.

I have recently purchased a 2023 WRX Sport CVT ( Australia ) which i am in the running in period, i am almost at 1, 000 kms up, using 95 premium fuel and most of my driving is longer trips at 100 to 110 kph at nice open highway crusing, the fuel usage gauge is floating at 7.4 L p/100 kms = 38mpg. This is my 5th new WRX with my last 3 CVT i have alway fund the CVT very fuel efficient. 👍 Au

Love the vid always detailed and straight to the point. Would love if you can do a MPG test for Audi Q7 2017-19 model years on the v6 engine. really thinking of buying this car

It will be interesting you take the same wrx but on manual transmission

I thought this was great considering my 2010 Impreza 5 speed gets 23 on the highway going 70 lmao

AWD, more weight and a bigger engine . Of course the SI is going to get better MPG.

Did you do a test for the manual version?

Not bad at all. Not great either. Like you, I feel the competitors blow this out the water on the highway

Damn. My 8 seater Subaru ascent that has the same engine and bigger, and heavier is averaging alittle bit over 26. Am I missing something?

I like everything about this car except for the fuel economy. I'd never buy a new car that gets less than 35 MPG highway. This could really use a hybrid variant.

Like someone said, I think the gear ratios are all wrong. No way a 271HP engine needs to work at 3K RPM to move a 1600 Kg car at highway speeds. 6th, 5th and maybe 4th gears should be way taller.

im doing mostly city driving, small distance. only getting 17 mpg :(

It does not get good MPG because the CVT has quite a short ratio up there. Same problem as my forester XT. Can get about 40mpg at 60mph, but goes down to 30 at 70.

I wonder if the fact that since the cvt lugs the engine, will carbon buildup happen quicker due to the lack of rpm building?
