The reason I love Julie is she’s there for those who are scared to ask for help and I’m one of them. I check in everyday for one of her vids bc it helps me get through my situations at the moment. Thanks Julie ❤❤❤

I just lost my class mate/friend to suicide yesterday. No one knew what was happening until it was too late. I'm going to miss him a lot, I already do. And it hurts because I wish I would've gotten to know him better, to be there for him, because I know how dark of a place it is to feel that way. It hurts to know that I almost left my loved ones behind too. He was an amazing person. Kind, funny, smart, straight a student, president of a club, in all advanced classes, had scholarships lined up. He had everything except for the support he so desperately needed.

another reason could be, they are afraid of people telling them that it isn’t real, that it’s just called being sad, that you are being dramatic, the fear of them undermining you because they have done so before just completely shys you away from even bringing up the subject.😔

Depression is still very misunderstood & stigmatized.

It could also be that they don't wanna be a burden to other people with their depression. They acknowledge that everyone else has problems as well, so, they might hide it in order to avoid talking about it altogether.

Or it might be that..we tell someone about our depression..and that person just ignores it and leave u..
So we think..other ppl would do the same thing..and eventually leave..🥺
So it's hard sometimes to trust someone and tell them about our depression 😔

Another fear is.. doubting people intentions. People might exploit us when they learn our vulnerabilities

People without the same experience can Never understand us. They dont know how to act, and you can see their confused and sticky reactions everywhere

I think one of the reason is its hard to find someone who's going to listen to them instead of saying oh very sad or its gonna be okay one day or everyone's life is a lot of people pretends that they are listening but in their mind they are just thinking of something

I don't mention how I feel since everyone just calls me lazy and says I don't work hard enough

Thank you for this type of content! It’s helped me grow and understand more about my mental health, and now I feel less alone, knowing how mental illness might make me and others think and act. Thanks

I don’t mention it because it feels like people either don’t truly listen or they don’t empathize. It’s kind of hurtful to get empty platitudes or be told to just pray and believe god will handle it.

My reasons for hiding it are from past experiences;
1) being questioned by my manager if I could do my job.
2) being quietly fired because I went to hospital after 2 deaths in my family & I had to take care of myself.
3) being called crazy when people are angry & weaponise my diagnosis against me.
4) losing friends who genuinely didn't care what I was struggling with.
5) people try to get involved & "fix" me then get frustrated when I don't just get well.... if only I just journaled or meditated or exercised... that would cure something I've had my entire life ...

I would just like to add to that the top reason for me is because nobody takes it seriously. They just think it's your run of the mill "moods" and it's not.

I can't go to the doctor for help with depression. Medical records can be used in court to have your children taken away by a manipulative ex partner.

Other ones I've heard people mention on the subject of how difficult it is to talk about mental illness in general is that they're scared that saying something will either push their loved ones away (people are very happy to help with quick fixes, but there is no quick fix for depression), or that the person will instead invalidate their emotions/not take it seriously (e.g. you're just making it up, just 'cuz you're sad doesn't give you an excuse to avoid [chore/responaibility], stop making excuses for your laziness, etc.)

It just sucks overall that reasons to be scared to talk about mental health exists at all.

My own reason is I believe others are also going through it so i don't wanna be a disturbance.

They just don't consider depression as a regular disease
