Song: Djo - End of Beginning

Subtitles/Lyrics:
I moved to Chicago for school and then got cast in Stranger Things and kind of sort of swept into this other world. And, like, left Chicago working so hard at this goal to, like, get an acne job. And what I didn't realize is what I was sacrificing is everything that I kinda built in Chicago, and I guess that's kinda what the song was about. Like an homage to that. And when I'm back in Chicago I feel it.

The fact that the song is as famous as it is with most people not knowing its Joe Keery is a testament to how good it really is. Didnt need even need the stranger thing fame to make it

I hope he is so fucking proud of the fact that this song blew up without it having to piggyback off his success as an actor. He was just so talented that the song took off completely on its own merit! That is something special and worth being proud about.

The song means so much more to somebody who doesnt live in the city they were born in. I moved away from everything I've ever known just before becoming a teenager, and I faced so many struggles surrounding that. This song means so so much to me. Almost like a way to say thank you to the city who raised me. A way to say goodbye to the end of my beginning. Moves me to tears everytime.

I went to school in Chicago and lived there for nearly a decade. When I was 26, my mom was diagnosed with cancer, and I ended up moving back home to care for her. She left me her house when she died. My husband and I had intended to make a life in the city, but got pulled back to our small hometown. Losing my mom made me want to cling to the rest of my family. This past Spring, we took our daughters to Chicago, visited our old apartment. This song was all over the radio, and made me feel really nostalgic for our old life. I miss Chicago, but we have everything we need for our daughters where we are now.

I’ve lived in Chicago my entire life. But when I hear this song, it makes me feel how much I love my city. Chicago has its flaws, but it is also a beautiful place. I’m proud of my city, I love my city and I love this song.

Did we all just realise he made this song? I didn’t even know he could sing. I’m hella mad at myself.

This song really affects me. I'm in Scotland, where I was born and raised, but my dad is from Chicago (he met a British lass, ) I grew up with an American accent because, for some reason, I didn't pick up the Scottish accent. I've never felt like a Scottish person and get asked every day in this city where I'm from.

I've dreamed of moving to America. It just feels like my spiritual homeland. I've had a long-distance American boyfriend as a teenager who I visited a couple times, and my US family in the South who I've only visited a small handful of times because it's so expensive to go there. I've watched my dad spend almost 3 decades here; working full-time, missing his family but only ever making enough to survive one month to the next so not being able to afford flight tickets, and having to watch his beloved family get older and deteriorate in health from half a world away.

So I love this song. "And when I'm back in Chicago I feel it, " it's like a call to my holyland, and it makes me feel for a moment that I can really be there, and it's actually real and waiting for me. "You take the man out of the city, not the city out the man, " is like my dad still being American and missing his home for all these years.

THANK YOU, DJO. Your other songs are awesome, too.

I feel him. That song takes me way back to growing up in Chicago. I left at 19 to live abroad for a couple of years, then moved to California, and now I’m in Colorado which I love. Still Chicago is in my soul and I feel that song in my bones when I listen to it ❤ wonderful song and instant timeless classic.

It’s so cathartic how he captured this feeling of seeing mourning but also honoring that part of the self. So many people hear it and relate. I love this song so much. I love his music. So good 🫶🏼

I’m 33 and grew up in Humboldt park in Chicago for over 20yrs then I got married and moved to the southwest suburbs 😂this song hits me in the feels . My twenties were so fun in the city . Bartending in wicker park for years then I left it all for the suburb mom life .
