Omg this song. The tone. I immediately get zapped back to 2011. I'm driving my blue Taurus that had been owned by every woman (mom and 2 sisters) down the freeway. I hit Chicago. I had never been any farther than Alabama or Georgia alone. Here I was leaving my entire family and my beautiful sugar sand beaches of the Florida Panhandle behind. I was so excited and afraid. It just felt like anything was possible. I thought my 311 cds, my Fiona Apple and the Coldplay Parachutes would save me from homesickness. 13 years later Chicago became my marker to know I was truly back in the Midwest. The wealthy people consuming the rights to all the parks where I pit stop for pizza. You can't even be caught playing in most of the parks or visiting the beach if you aren't a community member. One girl was trying to visit her boyfriend and was sleeping in her jeep to do so. She was parked down by the water enjoying a brisk foggy late morning. She had been ran off from every other park and public beach. Meanwhile there are tents lining the freeway cutting through Chicago because the homelessness is becoming an epidemic. Two worlds a part. But I visit both ends every time I make a trip home to the Florida beach. Never experienced the "in your face" divide of life created by money, as I do there.
