There is another SciFi from the 80s I loved as a kid called "inner space". Don't think I've seen it since then so I don't know if it holds up, but I have fond memories of it.

14:13 the only significant change I’d make to a remake of this film is to make Carolyn and Jennifer the same person. Then as a 20 year old she’s like “ohhh I had the biggest crush on you back in 78 but you never talked to me!”

NOW, at this precise moment he is able to return home with the courage to ask her out. It’s the “return with the elixir” part of the Hero’s Journey
