Late to the game but my late father once responded to a trucker who had a heart attack rolled down an embankment into a garage, which killed him gorily. My dad, coming home and relaying the events, when I asked him if he was okay, said, “I’m a little hungry. The guy had a Twinkie on his seat but I figured it’d be bad form to eat it on scene.” To which I responded, yep you’re fine. It’s the dark humor that keeps the wheels turning.

That regret gland was a burn so hot the firefighters can't put it out.

I love how he gradually adds more pictures

The Shut Up Gland is actually pretty effective, considering everything that strains it. That said, after a long shift it can sometimes have to forcibly reset, prompting the first responder to scream into a pillow in frustration until their lungs give out. This is a vital process, allowing the Shut Up Gland to "reboot" and allow it to continue its vital function under nigh unreasonable stress loads.

Way too damn true.
Shut up gland is also the “don’t tell a person they’re stupid... no matter how dumb that idea was.”

I definitely agree with the “shut up gland” shutting down after midnight. I worked night shifts (7a-7p) for 20 years as a respiratory therapist at a large hospital, and by the time of the AM shift change, we were nearly delirious and would say and laugh at the most inappropriate things. Thankfully, we were never fired for that.

The one dislike is someone who failed their firefighter exam 😂

LOL! My superior was a fire fighter for 9 years and had a wicked sense of humor. He told me stories about picking up body parts from motorcycle wrecks as this was something he would do at least twice a day. One subject hit a guard rail that was already hit by a previous accident so it was mangled up and sliced off the bikers head and arm. Cap told him to go in the woods and find the rest of the victim. My guy later came out hold an arm and saying "Hey Cap!" as he held up the severed appendage making the hand into a middle finger "fuck you". This wonderful gem is something I will never forget as what sparked the story was him finding out that I rode a motorcycle.

tldr: Dark sense of humor should be a bit bigger imo.

How many firefighters does it take to change a light bulb?

Four. Three to cut a hole in the roof, and one to change the bulb.

I must say. At first glance I thought you were a goofball volley. Giving more time, I think you’re hysterical and on point. Even though retired from FDNY and ex NYPD, I will never stop my “ anticipate the worst “ scenario way of thinking that my wife is used to but kids don’t understand. It will stay with me forever. Nice job. Be safe my friend.

As someone with epilepsy and stress-induced seizures, I've probably had my life saved a couple times by first responders like you. I really can't imagine how you do it or how you get through it, so I want to offer you and everyone like you my unreserved thanks and praise--you're heroes to me for the sacrifices you've made in order to provide for yourselves and your families and to serve an often ungrateful and ignorant public. Stay positive my man.

Also... that jab at the cops toward the end was fucking ice cold. 😹

As a night shift ER Veterinary Technician I approve this chart. We graveyard shifters definitely have a modified version of this brain! ❤️🐾

I'm from a cop family and I will never get tired of the rivalry between cops and firefighters 😂 I always (*very* secretly) wanted to be a firefighter, but I’m way too unhealthy to actually do it now, so I'll live vicariously through these videos

Retired after 17 years on duty and I'm just now learning here how our brains work! Perfect! Talk about absolutely accurate!

I had this partner in my surveying class in college who was a medic chopper door gunner. This video explains a lot. I never said anything about what he said or how he said things because I figured there was a reason that I knew nothing about. Now I know. You do a better job at explaining this stuff than any "expert".
