Aerial footage shared by Syria Civil Defence captured earthquake damage in Syria's Idlib.

Two massive earthquakes are reported to have killed more than 2,300 people and wounded many thousands more in Turkey and Syria – with experts warning the death toll was likely to rise.

The magnitude 7.8 tremor struck overnight near the city of Gaziantep, and was felt nearly 1,000km away in Cairo, leaving a huge trail of destruction in Turkey and Syria, where many remained trapped below rubble as a second 7.5 magnitute earthquake then hit just hours later.

It is so hard to think about those who must be trapped and hurt freezing with no food and the building are piles rather than completely flat there is room under it all and I can imagine there must have been a fairly large number of people who survived for at least a little while after the shaking stopped.

The destruction in Syria brakes my heart, While everyone is paying attention and sending aid to Turkey. The Syrian people have been suffering from a very long war and many of the regions smashed by the earthquake are not even in control of the government . I bet the rebeles have no idea about rescue protocols . What a Tragedy ! and the worst part is nobody is going to help Syria and we are never going to know how many people died on the wrong side of the border. I guess Allah is more merciful to one than the other ...

Most people doesn't know Syrian people are suffering for years and years now because of the civil war which btw I bet most people didn't know the whole story about how and why it happened. For years, no new products are coming to the country. The trading stopped so the people were left with nothing. Electricity comes and goes, they're lucky if it would last an hour a day. You can see the proof in this video, look how they used solar panels, yeah cause there were no electricity in the country for how long has it been, 12yrs perhaps or more? Even water is inaccessible for some regions. Their currency was one of the lowest today, economy was down ever since. No access to good healthcare since there were no new machines, medicine shortages, low wages for healthcare staff. Most people doesn't even have the means to buy food or eat in a day. Now that it's winter, most of them doesn't even have jackets or blankets or a shelter to keep them warm cause they have no money to spend on. All of this is still happening now. The world doesn't know about it. So when I see this news, I cried. As an asian who lives in the most active tectonic plates in the world, I know the devastation an earthquake can do, so my heart goes to the Syrian people. May they have all the help that they can get, just like Turkey.
