Aerial footage over the Turkish city of Kahramanmaraş showed the scale of destruction, two days after several earthquakes struck south-east Turkey. Buildings can be seen in the footage reduced to debris and collapsed concrete mounds.

The earthquake's death toll across Syria and Turkey has now risen to more than 9,000 people, as Turkish and international rescue efforts continue across affected regions. Snowy weather conditions and damaged infrastructure have hampered those efforts. The WHO has warned that the death toll could rise up to 20,000.

I am writing from Jerusalem. We sent 500 people from Israel to help you.
My doctor husband is there now, we hope we can alleviate a little of the terrible suffering caused by this natural disaster.
The Israeli rescue team managed to rescue 20 people from under the rubble. Although it is a small number, each person is a whole world.

It is so hard to think about those who must be trapped and hurt freezing with no food and the building are piles rather than completely flat there is room under it all and I can imagine there must have been a fairly large number of people who survived for at least a little while after the shaking stopped.

I cannot imagine how many people are still under the rubble

The fact they didn't use rebar reinforced concrete to build in an area known to be on a fault line and earthquakes is extremely irresponsible and upsetting!!

It makes me so angry to see how many buildings are still standing!

I hope that the architects and construction workers responsible for this disaster will rot in prison!

RIP

10k People lost and the number is increasing but I still wonder if millions of people hurt by the earthquake will ever get a piece of awarness after this huge disaster and make stronger buildings and demand strict controls over constructions even if it means to pay higher real estate costs/prices? Or will they demand nothing and keep looking for the cheapest structure available. Future will show. Marmara region (also where the city Istanbul located) which is home to 26 million population still waiting for the next big earthquake for the past 24 years; they lived an earthquake in August 1999 with 7.4 magnitude and lost 18k people, I myself lost three relatives and many friends and 24 years later, people still doesn't seem to learn from mistakes.

Omg, there aren't enough rescuers to search such a large area and not enough time to dig everyone out. Can more people be brought in from neighbouring countries to assist? I dread the thought that all these ruins will become vast graveyards. How utterly tragic.
