Lyrics :

Tell you little story and it won't take long
'Bout a lazy farmer who wouldn't hoe his corn
The reason why I never could tell
But that young man was always well.

He planted his corn in the month of June
By July it was up to his eyes
Come September came a big frost
And all the young man's corn was lost.

His courtship had just begun
Said, "Young man, have you hoed some corn?"
"Well, I tried and I tried and I tried in vain
But I don't believe I raised one grain."

He went downtown to his neighbor's door
He had often been before
Said, "Pretty little miss, will you marry me?
Little miss what do you say?"

"Why do you come for me to wed?
Can't even make your own corn grain.
Single I am and will remain;
A lazy man I won't maintain."

He turned his back and walked away
Sayin', "Little miss you rue the day.
You'll rue the day that you were born
For givin' me the devil cause I wouldn't hoe corn."

As a swede I think this is the best Blue Grass there is. Its the same grass/corn that my ancestors tried to gather in before the frost came, the same grass that feed the cows, the same grass that made us children go to school, the same grass that made us become academic people. Yes, we always will be aware of our roots! And we send a loving thought to all the ones that have gone before us.

This is my favorite version/recording of this song. It’s on pretty much every playlist I’ve created over the years because it’s also one of my favorite songs ever. Dan’s voice - there aren’t enough superlatives in the world to describe it. Perfect representation of bluegrass. I recommend this to everyone I share music with.

A father fogure to me died today. He was an alcoholic, a war veteran, and a bad father. He was my best friends dad. But he helped make me who i am. And this was a song he showed me. Rip Curt. You took the long dive and it was your fault, but i still miss you you bitter old man.

Out standing performance by Dan Tymiski. I live in the very deep south, in farm country...I have cotton harvesters right outside my door...peanuts harvest takes those machines 3 times up and down the rows to get ready to sell to processors, but the young drivers, with headphones on listening to music and sipping on a cold drink, get it done pretty dang fast. Cotton and peanuts are rotated. Our elders are one by one, heading to heaven, but not before telling the stories of plowing with a cow, hand picking cotton (as my own Father did), riding a horse to town. I asked a 90 yr old friend of mine, on a scorching hot, humid day, "what did y'all do before air conditioning?" He replied 'suffered!'' He also said that the 2 best days of his life were... 1. The day they got a tractor, and 2. The day they got air conditioning!

So tight. Every one of them is a master of their instrument.

Love how Allison Krauss taps her feet. A cute little country stomp. I adore this music and these musicians. Also need to watch the YouTube video of Jerry Douglass' composition We Hide and Seek. It'll blow your mind.

Timeless . They just don't do it this way anymore. Feel sorry for this generation and what passes for music .
