You might want to start by playing with the navigation settings, specifically shortest distance vs. fastest time. It may be something where the GPS is set to always route you via the shortest distance, even though it would be quicker (but a slightly greater distance) to just stay on the freeway.

No, there is not. Usually the speed limit will display as black if you are under the limit, and will turn to red when you exceed it, but there is no audio warning at this time.
