Located in a 70's walk-up in the inner seaside suburb of St. Kilda in Melbourne, the heart of this studio apartment’s redesign by the talented team at tsai Design is a majestic floor-to-ceiling mirrored copper pod. This multifunctional centrepiece, which wraps around the existing bathroom wall and curves towards the sleeping area, houses both kitchen and bedroom storage with vibrant internal colours and includes a hidden fold-out table for added versatility. Oh no I would never use copper like that in my home. I project managed a retail store that used a lot of copper and it wears terribly. Just one greasy finger and it oxidizes.

The giant “mirror” in the corner of the room was off-putting from the very moment I glimpsed it. I’m not sure if it’s the color or the shape. I think it’s the color. It’s somehow uncomfortable to me, as if walking through a department store or having a colored light in my living space that is always present (expect when in the bathroom) and never able to be turned off. If I had to go with that walled off corner, I’d pick a non reflective material to construct it with and then place a normal mirror or two in key places to support the illusion of a greater space.

No thanks. I’d don’t want to walk around a big mirror all day. There’s your bed and a big mirror box containing everything else. That’s too weird for me

Oh my goodness, it would be difficult to clean the copper wall from those fingerprints.
