It seems like every other Ford product that comes from the auction needs these switches replaced, and with help from the internet its an easy fix! Most of the time these buttons will still function with the cover worn off. But when The entire casing falls off and the circuit board is crumbling thats another story. So today, (thanks to amazon, not a sponsor) We are going to replacing these with a quality product. I have been using these switches for years on many different Ford, and Mazda vehicles from Navajos, to Rangers, and everything in between. Thought the Explorer seems to be the most common. So lets grab a few tools and dive in! Hope this helps someone!

You got a love your Fords, my father has a 2001 crown Victoria, he also has a 2003 grand marquis, like I have stated in one of your previous videos, those things ride like Cadillacs.

I almost caused a 50-car pile-up on I-95 in Miami Beach yesterday. I was shocked and excited to see a Mazda Navajo in traffic. I haven't seen a two-door 1st Gen Explorer in at least 10 years. They've long gone extinct so imagine how excited a dude got when I saw a Navajo.

Jay, crooked mechanics all over are going to dislike this video. How ever will they be able to charge 3 hours labor for this. To bad, so sad for them. Good video.

Thanks for this video, Jay! I've got a 2000 Ford Ranger I bought new back in 2000. It has this exact issue with the cruise control buttons.

This 2 door Explorer is basically a Bronco or Ranger. I had a 1998 was a great truck for what I got it for only thing I had to do is a new battery and new tires!

These are great trucks. I had an '01 Mountaineer 5.0 that I sold this past summer. It needed more work than I cared to do to it, but it served its purpose as a tow rig incredibly well. I'd love to find another one eventually.

Will be doing this next weekend on a 99 Mazda B4000. Good to know I can leave the airbag and steering wheel in place basically and I don't need to feed the new wires.

Very helpful, I've got a volume control problem on my Crown Vic that has been irritating me and so now I know how to fix it. Thanks Jay! 👍 The volume down is really finicky, you have to press it off to the side to get it to lower, and sometimes it won't lower at all...it does nothing when you push it. So I've been thinking about replacing it, just wasn't sure how. I've also got a burned out back light on my electronic climate control, but I think I might have to replace the ENTIRE control unit, although I'm hoping I don't have to. The backlighting for the "FLOOR" and "VENT" buttons is not working. 👈possible idea for future DIY, fixing backlighting.

To properly replace the cruise controls, the ribbon wiring harness should also be replaced. That is most easily done by removing the entire steering wheel to access and replace the harness. Unfortunately, in most cases the steering wheel will resist all efforts to remove it, even if you happen to have a wheel puller. The existing wiring harness can be replaced with a new one without removing the steering wheel, but it is a bit of a hassle to do it. The replacement set will usually contain both switch button assemblies plus a new wiring harness, which can be unplugged if you do not wish to use it. Best place to buy a replacement CC assembly is from eBay, not one of the robber replacement parts houses or, heaven forbid, a dealership which will charge you at least triple the price you can buy a set off eBay.

I thought it was an Explorer Sport Trac, just by looking at the steering wheel in the thumbnail. I've always liked those, specifically the 1st gen. Oh well, I was not disappointed, regardless.
