Mental trick: stop thinking about yourself as a disorganised person. Rather than saying: I AM disorganised, say: I didn't follow my to do list, I didn't finish that project on time, I didn't plan my day out or whatever it is. Be specific and talk/think about actions rather than caracter traits. Because, you see, if you think: I'm disorganised, what follows is the thought of OMG it's gonna be so difficult to change the way I am. But if you think: I didn't plan my day well, it's so much easier to come up with the solution (the day is nit over yet, so I'll pick now one important thing to at least start working on and plan what to do tomorrow).

One thing that helps me when I feel like I have way too much in my head is to write it all down- like everything from cut my nails today, to get my assignment started, call mum, etc etc. It really frees up your mental space to focus on the task at hand and not have to constantly worry about what you should do next and what you are forgetting. Always love the vids Chase! X

Instead of saying "I don't have time to do ____" say, "____ is not a priority." It shifted my mindset from making excuses to recognizing I am responsible for my time management.

I have a tip that helps me. while you're studying or making a project try to stay away from all your distractions. Mute your phone, put it 3 meters away so you won't see it every time you look around and try to focus for at least 25 minutes before you give yourself a break.
This way, you'll finish what you have to do way more quicker.

Good words, Chase! You actually realize that you have more time than you think if you try to write down your aims for the day and time periods to do it. And it's not always necessary to write the thing to do for every second of your day, sometimes it even makes you think you are too busy and stressed. In that case, you can just write down your goals or tasks and give it not-so-short time interval, just like a bit limited. For example, it's not 15:00 - eat, 15:20 - run to the shop. etc. Just something like 15:00 - 15:40 - time to eat and do little tasks for the day. 15:50 - 17:00 - work on big tasks. Idk if I put it clear enough, my English is a bit limited :D But yeah, it makes things less stressful, less pressing and more organized. Thank you for the video! ~

ooooh _famous youtube voice_ story time:

so i used to kind of yolo my videos. shooting whenever and choosing whatever song and making the story up as i went along. but after months - many... many... months - i began really thinking about the process of making a video. and through regularly watching you, marie, casey, will darbyshire, and my other favs, i realised that maybe - just maybe - i needed to PLAN my videos before shooting them (maybe). so i started using my journal to PLAN n such, and decided that 2017 would be the year that i meticulously (well.. sort of meticulously) plan my videos almost to every shot and guess what? i'm now making videos that I'm proud of, that i am in love with, and that make me feel a lot less inferior than my youtube heroes (like yourself). also, i chose my latest pair of glasses because of you... ok that's basically it. byeee

ps-awesome video. lotsa edumacation.

I can relate to this so much. But unfortunately I believe disorganization has become such a big part of my personality that I'm also kind of scared of losing it and becoming boring. But at the same time it brings so much stress and anxiety and self-loathing into my life that I really want to get rid but it seems like no matter how hard I try it never really works. It's so nice to see someone actually acknowledge they have a problem and conquer it, it's a great things, so much respect for doing that!

Loved this Chase and it's so true and it's easy to let it get to you. Easy to believe it can't change but you're so right about being flexible because knowing that everything won't happen in a day is a great realisation and knowing that you will do what you can and being happy with that is 👌
I think that's my main tip - try your best and do all you can and do your best to be happy with that. Its easy to want to do more but that's not always possible and that's okay

My trick: Goals board. It's, you guessed it, a board where I put goals that I want to pursue to help me out (most of them about organisation or YouTube). Having that "in your face", "can't miss it" object can help keep what you wanna do in mind. I update it every couple months to make sure I don't stagnate and voila, my strategy! :)

do what you can to minimize the distance needed to complete a task, no matter how unusual the location or "home" is for that item, its better to keep everything needed for that task to be done in a way that is easy to see and requires the least amount of mental resources. the "last mile" of any activity is always the hardest for any activity as well as the most likely to pile up if left undone. i have adhd and bouts of hoarding but definitely chronically disorganized even when i'm trying my best. for example, if putting away laundry is a major issue, make the washer area the place for towels, linens and hangers, that way most things will be already put away or at least in a form that is easy to put away. My weird home is i put my medicine next to my coffee pot in a clear container so i can remember to take it in the morning which is the most important item and habit i have. nothing is wrong with "good enough" and i try to do the things that impact those in my life first so my disorganization doesnt hurt the wellbeing of my animals and less collateral damage to my relationship, although minimal results since i never do enough or what they would call to their standard even after hours of trying. but i do my best and dont compare myself to others, just to myself and how i progress. I know i will never be whatever "normal" is but as long as i can be safe, healthy, functional and have a positive space for my animals, i'll be ok.
