"the Arawak population dwindled from contact with the Spanish" is such a weird way to say "the Spanish killed, infected with disease and worked the Arawaks to death". In real History and Anthropology writing these framing differences are very important, and used in propagandistic tellings, usually for apologia by the colonial interests themselves.
