Here we go, so I’ve gotten heaps of comments regarding the R-73s and the MiG-29 in general and it seems like I need to clear up a few things:

The MiG-29 has good performance but it seems to be gimped. Not good. It should first turn well. It should also have a more competent radar. It’s really easy to notch limiting its “stand off” capabilities. The F-16 also needs flight buffs but we’ll get to that later.

The missiles: my main issue is the IR missiles. R60Ms are too week yet R73s are too strong. A version between 1st and 2nd dev would be ideal if that’s a thing but if not the R27ERs have potential, as do the R27Ts once they receive their proper IRCM. Currently 6 flares can defeat the MiG-29 and I have an issue with that at top tier. Any plane with automatic flares on (say the harrier gr7) can be immune to the MiG-29 and even when energy trapped can still evade for a long time.

Ideally the MiG-29 should receive something to put it on par with the F-16. In my testing I’ve found the F-16 to be less frustrating (but more restrictive). Whilst I find the F-16 better it’s only by a bit and I also don’t see much credit to the F-16 either. Video soon

There didn’t seem to be much wrong with the R-73 pre-buff, they could probably peel it back to just past there in capability and it’d be fine.

Is anyone going to point out that at 3:07 the enemy Mig-23 ML ran into the radar missile meant for the F4J

I feel like they only need to fix the radar and the r27ER, and give the r27T its realistic irccm, not as op as it was in devserver but still better than magic 2 as of how it is in the live server rn. Then wait for other countries to catch up, eventually releasing counters like the r73, and maby r77s to counter possible amraams and micas.

I’ve personally felt so disappointed in the Mig-29. It’s always been a favourite plane of mine, right back to when I was a kid in the 80’s. I got it after a 2 day grind for it, and was elated when I finally got it, played it…….”ok, it will be better when I’ve spaded it” Spent the time on it, spaded it. “Ah, it’s still not that good” I’m not pro player by any means, but I do have positive K/D on any plane I’ve spent time with, that has felt very hard work with this Mig and has cost my thousands of SL to keep it going. It’s hopeless long range, easily flared R27T’s mid range, naff radar for the R27R’s. Something just feels off with this jet.

With the introduction of the r27er I think that it ist a good step forward but sill not enough because of the strange and bugged radar. Flying against a ton of Phönixes is still a lot of pain including the aim 9ls from the f 16. So the r 73 would balance it a bit more but only if it wont be as op as in the dev server. Maybe reduce a bit the flare resistance and that should make it.

Boohoo, top tier jets can't flare the R-73. What about all the 9.0-10.7 planes that can't even equip flares and have to face all-aspect missiles every game?

Meanwhile aim 9ls are at 9.7 or below that if I'm wrong facing 80% of planes that don't have countermeasures. :/, amazing gaijin.

If they want to balance something, good step will be changing aim9L from 9.7 to 10.7 for premiums.

3:05 literally any radar would struggle with that shot. I forget the name of the effect off the top of my head but when a plane is that low to the ground even pd radars will struggle to lock. This is literally a giant skill issue.

It needs to be able to carry more ERs and have R73s.

I'd also buff the ERs a little and radar.

Simple, fix the MiG-29's radar as it's buged, add the actual flight performance to the R-27's, bring back the prepatch AIM-9L's, add the R-73 and give both it and the R-27T the Flare resistance of prepatch AIM-9L's maybe slightly better.

The solution for the MiG-29 is add aircraft that can compete with it when it had the R-73. but Gaijin half-cocked the balance again with F14 still dominating, and now the EJ Kai is probably top 3.
Its the same issue with the F14, nothing can compete with pheonix missiles, the F14 patch shouldve included tornado ADV for European nations, and also MiG29 with R73, maybe even F15 so Japan can get something (Though i dont know much about this plane so maybe its a step to far)

We really just need a better gamemode like an Air RB EC and these planes would be a lot more fun.
