Such a great message this morning.

Being mindful is definitely such a priority for me now. I have spent the last few months decluttering my entire house. And for the last three weeks I have been working on the garage. I'm still not done. My husband is a hoarder out there and he's finally understanding the importance of getting rid of things. The amount of junk I have taken out is mind blowing. He had kept every scrap of wood for the last 9 years. Some pieces were only 2-3 inches. I burned wood for 5 days solid. (Two days for wood from the garage and three days to clean up a wood pile from a tree we had taken down a few years ago). My mom (82, lives with us, and is an avid gardener) and I have been downsizing the flower beds and fruit trees. Even changing the shape of the beds to make it easier to mow around and need less trimming. Decluttering the yard. No more flower pots (with the constant watering necessary) and have streamlined the decor.

We have not used any chemicals on our lawn or in the home for the last 15 years. So I have chemicals that are 25 years old. Hazardous waste that I really never knew how to dispose of properly. I have found a company to take care of it for me. I can't wait to not have to see all that in the garage.

Watching your video makes me realize I still should go farther with my decluttering in the house. I need to simplify my life even more. My passion is rehabbing animals. They take up so much time, I can easily spend four hours a day just cleaning up after them and feeding and watering. That does not include the daily mess of my home from my family, our personal pets and the rehabbed animals. I have 34 animals in this house not including the ones outside and no one would even know because I keep it so clean. It's the decluttering that has made it so much easier.

My most recent rehab was a downy woodpecker. He was released about three weeks ago and still comes to eat the suet we put out for him daily. It's so rewarding to see an animal return to the wild and thrive.

Great video! I especially liked the last point about keeping your main objectives in life in mind when making decisions on what to buy, do, eat, etc.

More brilliant ideas Taryn! For me, I no longer watch TV news...it's more often than not all about disasters, traumas & mayhem, and with close up visuals of suffering ~ that's not a good mind diet on a daily basis. We were never meant to be so overloaded with all this data brought into our lives at such speed & regularity by 'advances' in technology. Personally, I limit myself to a brief scan of the online daily papers in the morning to get an idea of what's going on in the world, and leave it at that. Have you noticed that what fills news channels is mostly negative stuff! Where are the good news stories?!

I would love a video about mindful consumption. I am a minimalist except clothes. You have said that you love variety with outfits, too. I would like to know how mindful consumption can apply particularly in this area. Thank you for your videos-they have helped me a lot.

Most of my purchases are online. I put items in the cart - and leave them there. Most of the items end up not being bought as I realise I didn't actually need or want them. Also, cleaning supplies; most things can be cleaned with washing up liquid and scourers/cloths. Bleach for stains if necessary. The spray bottles for each and every purpose are mostly marketing!

For me, when I know there is something I need to do but don’t feel like it, I call it a dark cloud hanging over my head.

The problem with eliminating apps is that OF COURSE you are NOT removing the apps that MATTER. The ones that you are addicted to...

I've tried so many times to stop watching TV. I'll stop for a few days to a week and slowly I start watching -> basketball/baseball/football playoffs, programs that focus on politics, The View, etc. I've tried to limit myself too 1-2 hours per day, and that last for a few days. I think for me TV is company. I don't know what else to do....

Or install a launcher. I use a launcher it gives my phone a clean interface and I can hide the apps I don't need very often. And I haven't been on social media for the last five years - expect YouTube but I use it rarely.

I can walk around a store or a mall because it gets me out and I enjoy it. I am able to come home without one purchase. I do not shop online at all.
