Haval’s H6 mid-size SUV now includes a petrol-electric model to challenge the top-selling Toyota RAV4 Hybrid.

Haval has just launched its first electrified model in Australia in the form of the 2022 Haval H6 Hybrid – a fuel-saving petrol-electric mid-size SUV that hands the fast-growing Chinese brand a rival for the popular Toyota RAV4 Hybrid.

The H6 Hybrid has arrived in a single high-spec grade that’s jam-packed with creature comforts, high-tech equipment and advanced safety systems, yet doesn’t cost a bomb at $44,990 drive-away.

It’s also backed by a seven-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty with five years’ roadside assist.

But it’s biggest drawcard is the new hybrid powertrain, which combines a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine with an electric motor and battery to deliver a strong combined output of 179kW/530Nm and, importantly, relatively low fuel consumption of 5.2L/100km.

Those are the headline figures, but now it’s time to find out just how well the Haval H6 Hybrid performs in the real world.

Has the RAV4 Hybrid finally met its match? Feann Torr hits the road to find out…

I think the Chinese cars are great value for money. The biggest problem is Aussie reviewers who can't seem to accept that the Chinese can produce quality products. Why can't you just say its one of the better looking SUVs on the market, the anti - Chinese sentiment is sickening. You must be blind if you don't Haval are already in the game and competing with rivals from Japan and South Korea. You are already comparing them and the sale figures don't lie.

I drive one in China and I chose it over the Rav4. Very very happy with my purchase.

Not even sure why this came up but all the Aussie reviews of this car are pathetic. The suspension tune matters nil. If the motor and drivetrain ends up being reliable, it’ll destroy the rav4.

Is RAV4 the most overrated vehicle on the market besides the CX5? I mean, i'm not saying it's bad ... but I don't think it's as 'AMAZING' as car reviewers make it out to be. Bland and borderline rubbish interior / infotainment while the CX5 is a sedan on stilts with ZERO space.

Just bought one and i wouldn't buy anything else. Absolutely beautiful to drive and heaps of power and the technology is insane 🤯

I went to test drive the Hybrid and did not experience anything like wheel spin mentioned in this review. Nor was the suspension and issue. I found the rear window also not distractive. The interesting thing is that the presenter still recommend the Rav 4 above this vehicle even with the fact that taking off is at a snail space which puts the driver and occupants in jeopardy? Why would you want to drive a Rav4 which can accelerate and take you away from danger zones like crossings instead of a vehicle which can do that?

At last an affordable car with decent infotainment system displays unlike its established brands that still uses displays that they stock up 15 years ago.

Hmmmm…..”… doesn’t innovate in any significant way”. Wait…. The interior doesn’t look already 10 years old? Is cheaper, roomier, better spec’d with more power. Only problem seems to be “doughy” handling … oh and the badge. Do Rav4 owners really care about handling to the shops? Unlikely. Just a matter if time before the traditional manufacturers and buyers will wake up.

I wonder what the waiting list is on this model and how many sales it takes from inpatient customers ?

Does that mean driving on 110km/h for 3 hours, the vehicle will use the the petrol engine only ? Or it will switch between the battery and petrol and will get the petrol savings required ? Pls let me know

The price shoud be cheaper than RAV4. Should be arround 35k. Because RAV 4 Hybrid starts from 42k.

I am not an Auto engineer but my understanding is if suspension are soft then it provide more comfort on everyday ride around town to do daily driver to and from work, grocery shopping (That’s what most family do).

We can’t get best of both worlds, so this car may have body roll when you go at high speed in country town.

I have Tesla M3LR which has firmer suspension, I don’t feel body roll when I drive at high speed in country town however ride is so harsh and not comfortable at all neither in country town nor around town when you go over pothole or speed humps.

I prefer softer suspension as I driver mainly in town.

I know high end car will provide air suspension and better ride quality however they are not in this price segment to compare, I guess.

Thanks

GWM should make a 4WD version of this car. The reason i bought a Lexus NX300H hybrid was that it was 4WD.

Interesting...NZ site quotes 5.5L/100km....small/tiny diference I know...but...can the average user attain these figures? Highly doubtful....and ...can't seem to find in the specs that these babies need to be fed minimum of 95 RON fuel...but ...like European cars...much prefer 98 :( Whereas the Rav4 will happily slurp 91 rated fuel (standard shit they serve in NZ)
