A baby hippo miraculously managed to escape being eaten alive by two lions after a pair of adults came to its rescue.

Tour guide Danson Letai was in Olare Motorogi Conservancy, Kenya, on October 11 when he came across a calf stranded on its back.

Distressing footage captured two male lions chewing on the hippo’s neck and belly while the baby called out for help.
