Hippos are incredibly dangerous, and lions around them learn this early on. We tend to think of the lions as the supreme danger, but hippos are worse. Even crocodiles generally don't dare to bother them since an angry response can result in a bite force great enough to break their bones--it's just not worth it. It's not surprising to see a pride give way. Hippos also kill humans quite routinely in areas like the Okavango Delta here--at a higher rate than any other wild animal (not including those in the insect and micro worlds like mosquitoes). Despite being shaped a bit like an obese cow, their temperament is even more volatile than the moose.

This isn't just any hippo, looks like he's a big war veteran, look at those big scars, astonishing and terrifying. This hippo is a fearless warrior, surely the lions can sense that, an alert to stay away.

They weren't trying to kill the hippo, they were just trying to keep him from bathing in the water they drink. 😂

It's interesting to see how the hippos create channels for the water to flow through and are responsible for so many animals being able to have a drink.

People die from hippos because people just can't judge and understand how incredibly fast and agile they really are. They are incredibly fast under water and unbelievably fast on land. They can turn on a dime. You look at them and assume they're fat and slow. You couldnt be more wrong

Incredible, I had no idea until this video that hippos were actually helping create the river channels, that end up spreading water to help even more wildlife.

Though possibly the most dangerous herbivore in the world with the attitude of a tank, the Hippo is also among the most important creatures when it comes to water, possibly more so than elephants. Their brutal majesty is simple yet truly dazzling.

The documentation of the first instance of water from that flood is what brought this video to life! Also, with the precise narration from Sir Attenborough best in the narrating business worldwide!!!

I'm convinced that Hippos are the literal embodiment of the "Call an ambulance, but not for me!" meme.
