You don't need to double plate those pony walls under the stairs.. One, single top plate is fine there, and the studs only need to be 2ft centers. But otherwise, this is a strong way to do it.

Figured I’d find this after I built mine.. I did the box method for the winders. Works fine but consumes much more product. Your method uses less wood..

What if a winding staircase is on top of another winding staircase? How would you frame it to give the head clearance that is so easy with the straight stringer sections?
