For those wondering how to do this on Windows 11:

Requirement:
Select the device you want to set defaults by -- Clicking on Speaker icon from Taskbar, then select your desired output device.

1. Right-click on the Speaker icon.
2. Click Open Volume Mixer.
3. From there, you'll see your currently opened apps.
4. Set your desired default input/output device for each of those apps.

Cheers!

Note: Apps must be open to see them on the Volume Mixer window.

For windows 11:
Go to setting>system>sound>volume mixer. There you will find spotify in apps then just select what device you want as your output

Just randomly wondered about this, as it'd be nice to have music going while also maintaining good game audio so I can hear my environment. Glad to see there was a way to make it work, as when I didn't see an option within Spotify, I thought hope was lost.

THANK YOU! Was trying to figure out how to route Sporify to the AUX input on VoiceMeeter while everything else is on the VAIO, and this is perfect 😁 While I'm at it, I might route my system sounds separately to a different source sometimes too!

Thanks pal, I had the same problem on windows 11, a comment on another video lead me to search for this issue. Spotify was trying to play to a disabled output instead of my default active one. This really helped me find the problem. If anyone else has this problem on Windows 11 enable all your disabled output and then you should see Spotify pop up. Cheers.
