Riu riu chiu la guarda ribera, villancico attributed to Mateo Flecha but also considered anonymous, from the Cancionero de Upsala, published in 1556 in Venice. Considered a Chrsitmas carol.
J'adore cette version parce qu'elle est près des gens qui, j'imagine, se rassemblaient au coin du feu pour chanter en toute simplicité cette chanson de Noël. I love this interpretation because it is close to people gathering to sing a Christmas carol.

El lobo Rabioso la quiso morder

Muchas profeciaas lo han profetizado
y aun en nuestros dias lo hemos alcancado

y al hombre nel cielo porqu'el le quisiera

Diziendo a Gascones gloria sea en el cielo
Y paz en el suelo pues Jesus nasciera

Que dios no pudiera hazer la mas madré

God has kept our Lamb from the Wolf.
The rabid Wolf wanted to bite her
But Almighty God knew how to defend her
He decided to make Her impervious to sin
Even original sin this Virgin did not have.
This one who is born is the great Monarch,
Christ the Patriarch dressed in human flesh;
He has redeemed us by making Himself small.
Although infinite, He made Himself finite.
Many prophets gave us prophecies and forecasts,
So today in our time they have come true at long last.
God in human form, this is what we see on earth,
And mankind in Heaven because God wants it so.
I saw a thousand angels that were singing,
Flying around, making a thousand voices,
Telling the shepherds: Glory be in Heaven
And Peace on Earth since Jesus is born.
He comes to give life to those who were dead
He comes to repair the fall of humankind.
This Child is the light of day,
He is the Lamb of whom St John the Baptist had spoken
Know that the story makes sense, just as we shall hear it
That God could not make Her more than his mother.
He who was her father was born of her today,
He who created her proclaimed he was her son.
Now that we have what we had desired
Let us go together to present Him our gifts.
Let everyone give Him what they want,
Because He came to make Himself equal to us.

Riu riu chiu, les berges de la rivière le protègent
Dieu a tenu le Loup loin de notre Brebis.
Le Loup enragé voulait la mordre,
Mais Dieu tout-puissant a su la défendre.
Il a fait en sorte qu'Elle ne puisse pas pécher
Elle fut même exempte du péché originel.
Celui qui vient de naître est le grand Roi
Christ le Patriarche, qui s'est incarné en homme;
Il nous a rachetés en se faisant petit enfant,
Lui qui est infini a assumé notre finitude.
Bien des prophéties nous l'avaient annoncé,
Et enfin, de nos jours, se sont réalisées:
Dieu à forme humaine, nous le voyons sur terre,
Et l'Homme dans les deux, parce que Dieu le veut.
J'ai vu mille angelots qui allaient en chantant,
Et volaient alentour en faisant mille voix
Et disant aux bergers: “Gloire dans les cieux
Et paix sur la terre puisque Jésus est né .”
Il est venu rendre la vie aux morts
Et relever l'humanité de sa chute.
Ce petit garçon est la lumière du jour,
Il est l'Agneau que Saint Jean avait annoncé.
Sachez que cette histoire est vraie, telle que nous l'entendrons,
Que Dieu ne pouvait faire d'Elle plus que sa mère.
Celui qui était son Père est né d'Elle aujourd'hui,
Celui qui l'avait créée déclare qu'il est son fils.
Puisque nous avons tout ce que nous désirions,
Allons tous ensemble Lui apporter nos présents,
Que tous nous Lui donnions ce que nous voulons,
Parce qu'II est venu se faire l'égal des hommes.
