Hey guys, something I thought I should clarify. When I say "Fail", it does not necessarily mean a complete failure where you regret everything and it was a horrible idea, etc. I just mean they did not live up to what you imagined. I don't regret a lot of my "failed" projects because it was a learning experience.

Hey Brad as a guy who is 7 months into his job as java developer I stopped doing side projects and I realized now I want to get back to pure web development since enterprise programming is killing me. Which top technologies should I start with to create some cook websites?

My situation is a bit unique because I built custom applications to meet my specific needs. But before I spent the time on my 11 Web Apps, I did do market research. My research was focused on Apps that met my needs. Most of them simply did not. But as I tweak my Apps I can see an opportunity to monetize either the complete App or components of the App. I have really enjoyed this channel. I have found it very helpful.

An excellent talk! I would add one more reason to HAVE a side project (doesn't have to be a commercial one, doesn't have to give you income) is to be caught up with tech stack that your day job doesn't use. Maybe there is a library or a framework that is gaining popularity but you feel like you'll never have a chance to use it at your workplace. Just go and think of a possibly dumbest project as a reason to use it. It could remove some of the stress and frustration you the outsider feeling.
