University of California not requiring SAT, ACT scores for 2021 freshmen

The University of California has decided to ease its admissions process by no longer requiring standardized test scores and some letter grades for a few of its courses due to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.

That is good news! Many high school graduates read and math at the 8th-grade level. A convenient segway to lower the bar. I remember the days when it took intelligence and discipline to get into college, and even more to graduate.

SAT Math is not a good test. Here are the reasons.

1. SAT Math gives too little time. Each question should be answered in 60 seconds or 80 seconds.

2. So you should practice tapping on a calculator as fast as possible to get a good score on SAT math.

3. SAT math gives higher scores to students who skip difficult questions and get many easy questions rather than those who solve challenging questions and miss the opportunity to answer easy questions due to time limits.

4. Therefore, SAT math can't distinguish students with great intelligence from other students.

5. SAT math can not help schools to design classes. Teacher should be able to identify students' strength and weaknesses to design classes. However, SAT Math doesn't provide the info about students because SAT Math doesn't show students' problem solving process.

6. Some students may answer with superficial knowledge.

7. Some students may make marking mistakes.

8. Students can't show their creativity with SAT Math tests.

9. SAT math is nothing to do with the abilities required of a scholar.

Peter Schiff has a great video where he asks workers in the French District of New Orleans if they graduated college, just about all of them did - even the people that give rides on bicycles. So much money wasted on worthless degrees!
