You two take me back to the time I was raising three growing boys who are now all well over 6 ft tall and I was milking twice a day. I didn't have a milking machine, I had to do it all by hand. I milked 4 dairy goats and held down a full time job. My cow was a Holstein and you can imagine how much milk they give but I never got to milk her. We were hard pressed for money and we had a very good offer for her and my husband sold her. My mom lived on our homestead and she would help me milk the goats, I think it took her back to her days of milking the family milk cow. The Nubians and Alpines are very good producers but I really really wanted a milk cow. My youngest son had some problems with his stomach and the goats milk actually healed his stomach. Now I'm old and live my homestead life vicariously through you guys.

One of the biggest u tube homesteading channels never treats the udders of his cows with iodine before milking, he seems to have mastitis problems all the time. This is so important, your explanations and step by step instructions were so good.

Would love a video on what a person does with all the milk. I mean 2-4 gallons a day seems like a lot would go to waste. Love you guys. Love your videos.

SUCH a great video, and beautifully compliant cow! It takes 3 of us(!) to hand milk our very docile, but headstrong, cow right now twice a day 😬 (sans stanchion - one to feed and focus, two to milk). We hope to be where you are soon. I do have 2 questions though - 1) how do you use a 4 claw milker if one teat is dry, ours doesn’t build enough pressure and 2) any tips for getting the claw on a smaller teat? Thanks in advance!

I have the same question that someone else did. What did you use for the post this? Do you have a certain brand or product you recommend?

#Askhomesteady As we're coming into the season my wife and I are preparing for our first flock of chickens. We've watched all of your videos and many other homesteaders on chickens but I still feel like I'm not ready for them to come next month. We've purchased a prefabricated 10x10 "mini barn" and plan to connect an old 10x10 dog kennel to it for a run. What I'm still looking for is a good meal plan for them. (Buff Orpingtons and Australorps) I'd like to make our own, with all the conspiracies going around. Any tips?
Thanks for your patience with this long comment.

Please caution your viewers that milking from behind without proper barrier can be very risky to your well-being from a kick. Without a rear barrier in place, you should milk from the side.

I realize with her, she’s very tame but a newbie should never plan to milk between the hind legs as you demonstrate.

Love the show.

Could someone tell me how the milk claw stays on the teats without suction turned in! Because I am not able to attach mine like she did. They would fall off instantly.

#AskHomesteady if continous suction will ruin a cow's udder, does that mean that Udderly EZ Milkers will also ruin their udder? Thanks 😊
