1) At the end you grabbed the wrong mesh 2) probably pivot is taken from the 1st mesh you have selected, so it's a good idea to start selecting from the floor for instance.

Is there a way to do this at runtime? Say if you're procedurally generating static objects, could you then combine their meshes to optimize the number of vertices that they collectively need?
